Theatres® (AMC) and Indomina Releasing are proud to announce the upcoming film LUV will play exclusively at AMC locations around the country through the AMC Independent program.

Through a unique partnership that will see Sheldon Candis’s acclaimed Sundance film released on January 18, exclusively in AMC Theaters nationwide, LUV will receive support from AMC including marketing and promotional efforts.

LUV, which premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, is a gritty and touching portrait about a boy and his uncle set within 24 hours on the rough streets of Baltimore. The film is directed by Candis, written by Candis and Justin Wilson and stars Common, Michael Rainey Jr., Charles S. Dutton, Meagan Good, Marc John Jefferies, Lonette McKee, Michael Kenneth Williams, Tracey Heggins with Dennis Haysbert and Danny Glover. The movie also features the music of hip hop recording artist Blaqstarr.

“AMC Independent exists to help bolster awareness for and cultivate the growth of independent films like LUV,” said Nikkole Denson-Randolph, Vice President of Special & Alternative Content at AMC. “This is a thought provoking, character-driven film that will appeal to a wide moviegoing audience, and is exactly the kind of movie we’re looking to promote through our AMCi program.”

LUV is about an 11-year-old boy gets a crash course in what it means to be a man when he spends a day with the uncle he idolizes in LUV, a poignant and gritty coming-of-age story featuring standout performances by Common, Danny Glover, Dennis Haysbert, Charles S. Dutton and newcomer Michael Rainey Jr.

With his mother in rehab and his father out of the picture, young Woody Watson (Michael Rainey Jr.) lives with his grandmother (Lonette McKee) in suburban Baltimore and longs for his family to be reunited. His charismatic Uncle Vincent (Common) has recently returned home after eight years in prison, determined to straighten out his life by opening a high-end crab shack that will establish him as a solid citizen with a legitimate future.

One day, instead of dropping Woody off at school, Vincent decides to give the boy a tutorial on how a man gets things done. After a trip to a tailor to get Woody a custom-fitted suit, the pair heads to the bank to sign off on the loan Vincent needs to fulfill his dreams. But when his meeting with a bank officer puts the brakes on his plans, Vincent has no one to turn to for help but his former associates, including Baltimore crime boss Mr. Fish (Dennis Haysbert) and his brother Arthur (Danny Glover).

A day that begins with a parking- lot driving lesson and Woody’s first oyster takes a desperate turn when Fish insists Vincent run one more drug deal to demonstrate his loyalty. Soon Vincent finds himself pulled back into the violent world he is trying to escape—and Woody has to decide whether to follow his hero…or become his own man.
